Three professors of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, were feared killed on Friday afternoon in a fatal automobile accident, a student of the university, told online newsportal,Saharareporters.comon Friday. The three professors were said to be on their way to Zaria from Abuja when the accident occurred on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. The lecturers were Samuel Kafewo, Martins Ayegba, and Nanaaisha Ali. All were development communication experts, who taught at ABU’s Department of Theatre and Performing Arts. The death of the professors adds to the tragedy that hit the academic world recently. It will be recalled that writer and former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Festus Iyayi, died in an accident involving a vehicle in the convoy of the Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, on November 12, 2013. The accident in which the professor of Business Administration and Head of the Department of Business Administration, University of Benin, died, occurred at Banda, a village about three kilometres from Lokoja, Kogi State. His death fuelled speculations on whether it was an assassination or just an accident. A series of protests followed Iyayi’s death as the civil society activists of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights marched on the Kogi State liaison office in Lagos. This death came on the heels of the disappearance of a professor of Nuclear Physics in the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, James Olomo Saturday, 8 February 2014
