Lowly-rated Congo Brazzaville humiliated Nigeria 3-2 on their home turf as the Super Eagles got off to the worst possible start in the 2015 African Nations Cup qualifiers.
The result throws Group A wide open already following South Africa's 3-0 victory over Sudan in Omdurman on Friday night.
Stephen Keshi's side opened the scoring in Calabar through Efe Ambrose after 14 minutes but Prince Oniangue drew the visitors level just three minutes later.
Thievy Bifouma made it 1-2 five minutes before half-time before the same player converted a penalty early in the second half to make it 1-3.
Nigeria pulled one back through Gbolahan Salami in the 89th minute as he smashed home from close range from an uncleared corner, but 2-3 it remained as Congo threw the script out of the window to secure a memorable result.
The Super Eagles now travel to Cape Town under pressure to get a result against Bafana Bafana on Wednesday night.
