An Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday remanded an applicant, Emmanuel Agbo, in police custody for alleged gang r*pe. The presiding judge, Mr. Vincent Gwahemba, gave the order after police prosecutor, Joseph Ahua, urged the court not to grant bail to the accused because investigation was still ongoing. Earlier, Ahua told the court that the accused and three others, now at large, conspired and deceived the complainant. Ahua said that they picked her up in a vehicle with an unknown registration number, after luring her through the social media. He said the accused person and his accomplices, gang-r*ped the woman. Ahua alleged that they took her to Aso `B’ Mararaba, where they threatened her, stole her two Blackberry phones, and N8, 000. The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 97, 397, 292, 244 and 283 of the Penal Code, which attracts 28 years imprisonment on conviction. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. SOURCE: Punch
